Driver docked for allegedly damaging Lagos State Govt. bus

Ikeja, April 19, 2018(NAN) A 35-year-old driver, Ade Adejumo, who allegedly damaged a bus on the fleet of the Bus Rapid
Transit(BRT) belonging to Lagos State Government, was on Thursday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Ekogbulu, on a two-count charge of damage and assault.

Adejumo, who resides in Agege area of Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N100,000 with two
sureties in the like sum.

Ekogbulu said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment.

Police Prosecutor Adetutu Sanusi told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 13 at
Pen-Cinema area of Agege, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused maliciously damaged the two door glasses and three head lamps valued at
N120,000.

Sanusi said that Adejumo allegedly damaged the glasses and lamps after the bus driver hit the accused tricycle.

“The accused had driven against traffic when the incident happened. When the driver sighted the accused driving
against the traffic, he tried to avoid him but the bus hit accused’s tricycle.

“The accused jumped out of his tricycle, entered the bus, dragged him down and started beating him and tore
his trouser.

“He was not satisfied with the beating but picked a big stone and damaged the side glasses and head lights.

“The police stormed the scene and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

The offences contravened Sections 172 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed for two years if found guilty of malicious
damage according to the provisions of Section 350.

The case was adjourned until April 30 for mention. (NAN)
