Lagos, Feb. 27, 2017 (NAN) A 32-year-old driver, Oladosu Ezekiel, who allegedly drove his space wagon recklessly and knocked down a 28-year-old man, was on Wednesday released on a N500,000 bail.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, ordered the accused to produce two sureties, one of who must be a property owner in Lagos as part of the bail conditions.

Ezekiel, a resident of No. 17,  Okegbenro St., Puposola in new Oko Oba,  a Lagos suburb, however, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on dangerous driving and manslaughter.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused drove a Mitsubishi Space wagon with registration no. FX 90-LND dangerously and caused the death of Orim Kingsley.

“The accused drove against traffic inward new Oko Oba road in Abule Egba and knocked down Kingsley at Ayodele Bus Stop while waiting for a commercial motorcycle.

“The man died on the spot,’’ Ayorinde said.

He said a team of traffic officials rushed to the scene and took the body of the victim to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

“The body was later deposited at Lotad Funeral Home, Agege, Lagos.’’

Ayorinde said the driver committed the offences on Feb. 10 at about 9.30 p.m. along Jonathan Coker Road, New Oko Oba.

The offences contravened Sections 7, 19 and 20 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope, adjourned the case to March 15 for mention. (NAN)
