Driver bolts with employer’s N22m truck, N3m cement in Lagos

Lagos, Aug. 8, 2017 (NAN) A 37-year-old driver, Raheem Wasiu, was on Tuesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing his employer’s truck valued at N22 million and cement worth N3 million.
The accused is facing a five-count charge bordering on stealing, conspiracy and giving false evidence.
The accused, however, entered a `not guilty’ plea.
But Sgt. kehinde Omisakin, the prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offences between June and July at Plot 26, Block M, Isolo Industrial Scheme, Lagos.
She said the accused, who works for Transport Services Ltd, allegedly stole one of the company’s trucks with registration no. KRD 403 XM valued at N22 million.
Omisakin said the accused also gave false evidence when he denied that he did not know where the truck was during interrogation by the police.
“Wasiu stole 800 bags of Lafarge Elephant cement worth N3 million and in a bid to defraud the company damaged the invoice of the consignment.”
The offences contravened Sections 96, 287, 339 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Segun Elais, granted the accused N2 million bail with two sureties in like sum.
Elais said the surety must show evidence of three years tax payment to the government .
In addition, one of the sureties must also be a community leader or an Executive Director in a reputable company.
The court also asked the sureties must deposit N200, 000 in the account of the court’s Chief Registrar and adjourned the case until Sept. 11 for mention. (NAN)
