Driver, 46, bolts with company’s N212,000 drinks

Lagos, March 9, 2017  (NAN ) A 46-year-old company driver,  Rotimi Akilo, who allegedly stole 24 cartons of Maltina worth N212,000, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Akilo, who resides at Dave Akilo Street, Iju-Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing preferred against him.

Police Prosecutor Ishola Samuel told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in August 2016 at Cryslad Group Of Companies at Oba Ogunji Street in Ogba.

He said the accused drove a truck loaded with 24 cartons of Maltina from the company to deliver to some customers in  Yaba, but diverted and sold off the goods.

“Akilo sold off the drinks and failed to remit the money to the company’s account and has since been on the run.

“The accused was, however, arrested after several months.”

The offence contravened Sections 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which stipulates a three-year jail term.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Onilogbo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to March 15 for mention. (NAN)
