Driver, 27, docked for stealing brain box of Toyota bus

Lagos, Jan. 11, 2017 (NAN) A 32-year-old, school bus driver, Daramola Olasunkanmi, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing the brain box of a Toyota bus valued at N750,000.

The accused, a resident of No. 24, Oluyinde St., Jankara, Lagos, is standing trial on one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 29, 2016 at No. 1 Eniola Daniel Str, New-Okooba area of Lagos State.

According to Ishaku, the accused stole a brain box, valued N750,000, property of Eniola- Daniel Memorial School.

“The theft was reported by one Olajumoke Oloyede on behalf of the school management.

“The accused parked the bus in the School premises claiming the ignition key was faulty; a mechanic was called to fix it and discovered the brain box of the bus was missing.

“The accused was questioned about the missing brain box but could not give satisfactory explanation, hence the matter was reported to the police,” Ishaku said

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 21 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 of the same law prescribes three years imprisonment for anyone convicted of stealing.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adegun, granted the accused N100, 000 bail with two sureties who must be community leaders.

Adegun adjourned the case till Jan 20 for further hearing. (NAN)
