Driver, 24, docked for allegedly absconding with N148,000

Lagos, Jan. 23, 2018 (NAN) A 24- year-old driver, Michael Bakare, who allegedly stole his employer’s N148, 000, was on Tuesday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Bakare, who resides at 24, Farawe St., Agbado area of Ogun, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec.11 at Wempco Company, Ogba area of Lagos.

Odugbo said that the complainant, Mrs Halima Hassan, asked the accused to pay the money into her bank account, but he absconded with it.

“The accused ran away with the money and all efforts made by the complainant to locate him proved abortive.

“The accused was later seen at Pen Cinema by another employee who raised an alarm, which led to his arrest,” he said.

Odugbo said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for any offender upon conviction.

The accused, however, pleaded, not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mr A. O Komolafe, granted the accused bail of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Komolafe, then adjourned the case until Feb. 13 for trial. (NAN)
