District head urges farmers, herdsmen to live peacefully

Nassarawa Eggon (Nasarawa State) May 19, 2017 (NAN) Farmers, herdsmen and other Nigerians have been urged to co-exist peacefully in order to accelerate the economic development of the country.
The District Head of Umme, Mr Ishaku Agyo, made the plea during a peace and security meeting between farmers and herdsmen in Umme, Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the State on Friday.
He said the appeal became imperative considering the importance of peace to the socio-economic development of any society,
The district head said he had decided to organize the meeting in order to promote peaceful co-existence between farmers and herdsmen of the area, especially now that the rainy season has set in.
Agyo called on the farmers and herdsmen to respect the right of each other, adding that anyone caught fomenting trouble and causing confusion would be dealt according.
“It is our role to preach peace and to advise our subjects and Nigerians on the need to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
“No nation can develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion, the security challenges facing some parts of the country had affected our lives and socio-economic development of the country negatively.
“It is in view of this that I urge the farmers and herdsmen and Nigerians at large to be their brother’s keeper and to live in peace with one another.
“This is to boost food production and for the overall development of the country’’, Agyo said.
According to him, without peaceful co-existence between farmers and herdsmen, agricultural production and socio-economic development will be affected negatively.
Agyo urged the people to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and not to engage in acts capable of tarnishing their image and the image of the country at large.
He also implored the people to be security-conscious and to report any suspicious movement of any persons or groups to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
The district head pledged his commitment toward peace-building programmes that had direct bearing on the lives of the people, for the overall development of the country.
The Village Head and Ardo of Umme, Alhaji Abdul Lela and Umaru Abdulkarim respectively assured of their commitment to continue to educate their subjects on the need to live in peace with one another. (NAN)
