Abuja, Oct. 8, 2016 (NAN) Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, a Director in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, has advised women to always explore and take advantage of opportunities available to improve their socio-economic status.

Walson-Jack, the director of Planning, Research and Statistics, gave the advice in her goodwill message on Saturday in Abuja to the ceremony of the installation of Matrons and Long Service Award organised by Ohuhu Welfare Union  (Women’s Wing), Abuja

Ohuhu Welfare Union  is a socio-cultural organisation of people from Ohuhu clan in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia, resident in the FCT.

The Women’s wing is an offshoot of the parent body of male members, established to promote the welfare, well-being and economic status of registered members through various economic awareness, enlightenment and empowerment programmes.

She commended the women for the successes they had recorded in their various endeavours as well as sacrifices made in nurturing the association.

“This is what the association has been nurtured to offer its members. As a woman, you ought to be bold, strong and resilient.

“You are required to even showcase your qualities in this era of recession.

“This is a call on all of you to engage in meaningful and productive ventures so that our families can be self-sufficient and not lack the basic things of life,’’ she said.

“Today, I join in this grand celebration as our matrons are installed and decorated as well as long serving members of Ohuhu Welfare Union, Women’s wing are recognized,’’ Walson-Jack said.

While thanking the long service award recipients who were pioneer members for their commitment, Iroele charged other members to emulate them and render diligent service for the continued growth of the union.

“Since the inception of the women’s wing of the union in 1992 in Abuja, the awardees have been steadfast in their commitment leading to the height it had attained.

“Their recognition is therefore, a challenge to the rest of the members to work harder for the growth of the union,’’ she said.
