DIG urges officers to embrace FG’s Change Mantra

Benin, April 18, 2017 (NAN) The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Training and Development, Emmanuel Inyang, has urged officers of the Police Command in Edo to embrace the Change Mantra of the Federal Government.
Inyang, who is also the Supervising DIG in Charge of the South-South zone, made the call on Tuesday in Benin during his maiden visit to the command.
He also urged them to ensure that the rule of law prevailed in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The DIG further called on the officers to be disciplined and shun corruption, saying that he had reviewed the crime rate in the state, saying that the state had faired well.
He urged the officers to maintain the tempo while assuring that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had put in place various welfare packages to encourage hard work among them.
He disclosed that some of the welfare packages included promotion of 33, 037 officers comprising 4, 410 senior officers and 28, 627 inspectors and rank and file.
Inyang further disclosed that a Housing Scheme was being established across all the zones under which houses were expected to be sold to officers across the zones at affordable prices.
On retirees pension, the DIG said that N200 million had been set aside from police pension as palliatives to police pensioners pending when they would start getting payment.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo, Haliru Gwandu, said the command had since September 2016 arrested 601 suspects for various criminal offences, while a large number of arms were recovered from them.
Gwandu also disclosed that in the last two weeks 55 suspects were arrested for various criminal offences in the state.
Out of the figure, he said, 12 were arrested for Armed Robbery, while eight and 17 were arrested for alleged kidnapping and cultism.
He, however, said that the command was facing challenges which included insufficient patrol vehicles and inadequate personnel.
The commissioner appealed that more officers should be posted and arms and ammunitions be deployed to the command. (NAN)
