Dickson Wrestling Classics: Team Bayelsa leads table with 14 medals

Yenagoa, March 12, 2017 (NAN) Team Bayelsa is currently leading the medals table of the on-going second edition of Gov. Seriake Dickson’s National Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa with 14 medals.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Sunday that from the game so far, host Team Bayelsa had secured seven gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
Events already concluded are Greco-Roman and female freestyle.
Bayelsa is followed by Team Edo and Nigerian Army.
A Referee, Warrant Officer Godswill Tiebiri, told NAN that Team Bayelsa has performed well in the event so far.
Tiebiri, who is also the coach of the Nigerian Army Wrestling Team, however, said the overall winner would be decided at the end of the game.
He said that his team would perform well in the tourney at the end of day.
Mr Tebe Dougu, Head Coach of Bayelsa Team, said he was delighted at his team’s performance so far, urging them not to relent on their efforts.
“My team is making me and the entire people of Bayelsa proud; this is the game we know how to do and we will continue to win.
“The morale is high; the performance so far is good. It is well with us and I pray that we shall emerge as the overall winner,’’ Dougu told NAN.
Team Bayelsa won the overall best in the first edition of the games.
The remaining male freestyle would hold on Sunday to wrap up the competition.
NAN reports that the five-day event, which started on March 9, has 27 team including states and private clubs.
Some of them included Delta, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Edo, Rivers, Ondo and Cross River States as well as Abuja and Bomadi Club, Lalong, Bidei, Nigerian Army and Civil Defence teams. (NAN)
