Asaba, Jan. 15, 2017 (NAN) A commercial farmer in Delta, Dr Eric Ebuka, has called on government at all levels to support soya bean growers in order to boost its production in the country.
Ebuka, former lecturer at the Department of Agriculture, Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Sunday.
He said that such support was necessary because of the nutritional and economic values of the commodity, especially now that importation of vegetable oil had been banned in the country.
He said that soya beans could be grown in many states of the federation, including Delta.
According to him, the product has become a major source of vegetable oil in the country as well as other countries of the world.
“Apart from the nutritional value, soya beans are also used in producing poultry feeds,’’ he added. (NAN)
