Abuja, Jan .30, 2018(NAN) The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says that the felling of economic trees in Ukana in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State has damaged transmission line between Oji River and Nsukka.
Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs made the disclosure in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mba said that the damage had resulted to power outage in Nsukka and its environs in the state.
According to her, it has affected the wheeling of electricity to 2 x 7.5MVA 66/11KV transmission substations in Nsukka that supplies electricity to the town.
The spokesperson said that several attempts to transmit electricity through its 66kv transmission line failed adding that it dispatched its lines patrol team to ascertain the reasons for the failure.
She said that TCN patrol team had discovered that wood loggers fell an Iroko tree which damaged three spans of conductors and cross arms of towers 60 to 64.
“TCN’s technical crew have already visited the site and assessed the extent of damage to the line and towers and materials are already being sourced from the company’s stores to repair the line and restore service,“ she said.
Mba assured the residents that the repairs would be completed in four days time.
She said the incident had been reported to security agencies who were conducting investigations to apprehend the culprits.
The manager however, apologized for the attendant discomfort to electricity consumers in the area and promised that the company would do everything possible to ensure that the transmission line was quickly restored.
Mba also appealed to those with information about the loggers to report to the nearest security agency or TCN office. (NAN)
