Abuja, Aug. 20, 2018 (NAN) Notable practitioners in the Abuja Creative Industry say there is the need to  revamp the sector to reduce the heavy migration of Abuja based practitioners to Lagos in search of greener pastures.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abuja based influencers, fashion designers, graphics designers, show promoters, musicians and chefs met under the auspices of networking platform, Connect and Chill.

The guests included popular Afropop singer Jon Ogah, Makeup Pioneer Ezechukwu Victor (Vugo), Celebrity Photographer Ejike Manny and Event Planner, Queen Ohamara.

NAN also reports that participants called for an integration of the various creative platforms in Abuja for the promotion and branding of practitioners.

They also noted that thriving entertainment hubs around the world possessed structures that handled the sector, thereby, building the needed hype around the industry.

Participants added that the industry in Abuja could borrow a leaf from places like Hollywood, Lagos or Port Harcourt to grow a thriving creative and entertainment hub.

Speaking earlier, the Director of Connect and Chill, Kevin Koya told NAN that the problems of creative practitioners were apparent and more conversations were needed to proffer generic solutions.

“We are aware of the issues in the Abuja creative space and we do not want to wait for stakeholders in other places to help us because the help would not come as needed.

“This is the essence of Connect and Chill as we strive to bring creative practitioners together to put the industry right,” Koya said.

He urged practitioners to network and collaborate with each other as media buzz and publicity would be dependent on the number of projects available in the Abuja creative industry.

The event also featured a fashion exhibition, which saw three student designers compete for the grand prize of N50,000 as well as a branding deal.

NAN reports that Nanbyen Lannap of House of Haute Von won the competition with her ‘ready to wear’ collection, beating SLD Signatures and Zhee Outfits, who came second and third respectively. (NAN)
