Court to sentence farmer on May 2 for raping minor

Minna, April 20, 2018 (NAN) A Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Friday convicted a farmer, Tanko Yau, for raping a 13-year-old girl.
Magistrate Binta Rijau, however, reserved sentencing of Yau, 25, who pleaded for leniency until May 2.
Yau was found guilty on a count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, contrary to Section 18 (2) of the Child Right Law of Niger State.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Gunduma Ibrahim, had told the court that one Mohammed Bello of Izala, Magam community in Minna, reported the matter at the Police Station on April 10.
Ibrahim said the complainant alleged that the accused lured his daughter into his room and had sexual intercourse with her on April 9 at about 6:00p.m.
The prosecutor prayed the court to try the accused summarily in line with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code. (NAN)
