Lagos, June 19, 2018 (NAN) Two artisans, who allegedly broke into a shop and stole N80, 000, were on Tuesday in Lagos granted a
temporary reprieve as they were released on N200, 000 bail.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, gave them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each and two sureties each in like sum.
The accused — Taiye Gbamigbopa, 36, a radio repairer and Afeez Yekini, 35, a technician — are standing trial on a five-count charge of
conspiracy, stealing, breach of peace, burglary and unlawful assault.
The duo reside at Alakuko, a suburb of Lagos on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Although the accused denied the charges, the prosecution insisted that they had a case to answer.
According to Police Insp. Abiola Adewale, the accused committed the offences with others now at large on June 10 at No. 948, Alakuko
on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
He alleged that the accused conspired and burgled the shop belonging to the complainant, Mr Igwe Chinoso, and stole his N80,000.
“The accused damaged the window of the complainant’s shop, ransacked the place and stole the money kept in a safe.”
Adewale said both accused were, however, arrested by a vigilance group.
“The duo was intercepted by the vigilance group in the neighbourhood, who handed them over to the police.”
The offences, according to the prosecution, breached Sections 168, 173, 287, 310 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State
2015 (Revised).
The Magistrate, Mr M.I. Salami, adjourned the case until June 26. (NAN)
