Abuja Feb. 8, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced one Hassan Abdul, to four months imprisonment for mischief.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10, 000 fine.
He also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N30, 000 to the nominal complainant.
Sadiq further advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.
Abdul, who resides at Jabi Motor Park Abuja, was convicted on a two-count charge of mischief and intention to commit crime.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charges, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying he did not know the stone will break the complainant’s car windscreen.
The prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, had told the court that one Isaac Audu, of Edo, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Feb. 4.
Avhioboh said on that same date, the complainant took his car to the mechanic workshop at Jabi and fell asleep inside the car.
She said the convict had a criminal intention to steal the complainant’s mobile phone from the car, but the latter woke up.
The prosecutor said the convict ran away but he was later caught.
Avhioboh said in the course of chasing the convict, he used a stone to break the complainant’s windscreen, valued at N50, 000.
The prosecutor said that the offences were punishable under Sections 95 and 327 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
