Abuja, Feb. 22, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Idakwo Emmanuel, 29, to three months imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle.

The Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave him N10, 000 option of fine.

Sadiq warned the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence should serve as deterrent to those inclined to committing crimes.

The convict who resides in Paipe village, Karmo area of Abuja, was charged with stealing.

According to the charge the offence is punishable under Section 312 of the Penal Code.

Emmanuel had begged the court to tamper justice with mercy, adding that he was a first time offender.

“I pray the court to temper justice with mercy. I did not steal the bike. I had borrowed it with the intention to return it.

“I also beg the court to show me unconditional mercy because of my young family that relies on me for sustenance,’’ he said.

Earlier, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, the prosecuting counsel, told the court that one Anthony Andrew, of Garki Area 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Feb. 2.

Auhioboh said the convict borrowed the complainant’s motorcycle but left for days with it to an unknown destination.

She also said that team of police investigators recovered the motorcycle after 12 days. (NAN)
