Court sentences man, 27, to 3 months imprisonment for stealing car battery

Abuja April 26, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court, Kado, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced Danjuma Abubakar, 27, to three months imprisonment for stealing car battery.

Abubakar, a resident of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was arraigned on a one-count charge of theft.

The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, however, gave him an option of fine to pay N3, 000.

Ado warned him to desist from committing crimes, Adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other would-be offenders.

Before the judgment was delivered, Abubakar, who had pleaded guilty to the charge, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy and blamed the economic recession for his crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, told the court that one Abdulrahaman Aliyu of Jabi Motor Park Abuja reported the matter at the Utako Police Station Abuja, on April 20.

Obatomi also said that the convict, some time in Feb., stole the complainant’s car battery, valued N27, 000.

‘’During police investigation, he confessed, that he sold it for N10, 000,’’ the she said.

The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Sections 95 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
