Court remands man over alleged possession of Indian hemp

Ile-Ife (Osun), July 17, 2018 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Tuesday, ordered the remand one Taye Olawumi, 37, in prison over alleged possession of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ona Glory, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 14, at about 08:30 a.m., at Famia road, Modakeke, in Ife Northeast Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
“The accused had in his possession weeds suspected to be Indian hemp of which he couldn’t give satisfactory account on how he came about,’’ Glory said.
He said the offence contravened section 430 of the criminal code.
The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The magistrate Muhibah Olatunji, however adjourned the case till Aug. 18, for mention and orderded that the accused be remanded in prison.(NAN)
