Court remands man over alleged assault, breach of public peace

Ile-Ife (Osun), Feb 16, 2017 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday ordered the remand of one Anu Afolabi,21, in prison custody over alleged assault and breach of public peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 10, 2017 around 12 p.m. at Afeki -Opa Area, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the accused, armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, conducted himself in a manner to breach public peace.
He added that the accused also engaged in a public fight with a cult group known as “poison spirit,” which led to great pandemonium in the area.
The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Sections 249 (d) and 509 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The plea of the accused was not taken by Magistrate Dorcas Ajiboye, who ordered for his remand at Ile-Ife prison.
Ajibiye adjourned the case till March 13, for hearing. (NAN)
