Court remands man in prison custody for alleged stealing

Modakeke (Osun), March 19, 2018 (NAN) An Osun Magistrates’ Court in Modakeke, on Monday, ordered the remand of one Benjamin Afolabi, 19, in prison custody for alleged housebreaking and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ona Glory, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec. 19, 2017 around 1:00 p.m. at Abebeyi Ifelodun Area, Modakeke-Ife.

Glory said that the accused broke and entered into one Olajide Babatunde’s house with intent to commit felony therein.

He added that the accused stole one cylinder of cooking gas and eight inches mattress, all valued N17,500.

According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 383, 390 and 411 (1), (2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of housebreaking and stealing.

Magistrate Abimbola Famuyide, who did not grant bail to the accused, asked him to come with a written application.

Famuyide, therefore, ordered for the remand of the accused in Ile-Ife prison custody pending the consideration of his bail.

She adjourned the case to May 16 for definite hearing. (NAN)
