Ile-Ife (Osun), May 16, 2018 (NAN) An Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Wednesday remanded a 39-year old man, Adeleye Idris, in prison for allegedly being in possession of Indian hemp.
Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode refused to grant bail to the accused on the ground that the defence counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, should file a written application.
Ijiyode, therefore, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison pending the hearing of the bail application.
She adjourned the case until June 13 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 11, 2018 at 10:00 p.m. at Ilare Street, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the accused unlawfully had in his possession some weed suspected to be Indian hemp and failed to give satisfactory account of how he got it.
He said that the offence contravened Section 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of being in possession of Indian hemp.
The defence counsel, Ben. Adirieje, applied for bail for the accused in most liberal term.
Adirieje also pledged that the accused would not jump bail and would provide reliable sureties. (NAN)
