Lagos, April 10, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of a 22-year-old unemployed, Mohammed Bello, in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, after pleading guilty to the theft of a motorcycle valued at N140, 000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, who gave the ruling, said the accused should remain behind bars pending sentence.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, had told the court that the accused committed the offences at about 1.50 a.m. on March 18 at Oseni Street in Arowojobe Area of Oshodi, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused conspired with others still at large to steal the motorcycle with registration no. AKM 604 WL, belonging to the complainant, Mr Joseph Taiwo.
Ajebe said the accused was apprehended by security guards on duty while rolling out the motorcycle.
“They interrogated him about the motorcycle, but he could not give any reasonable explanation.”
The offences contravened Sections 166 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused may be sentenced to a three-year imprisonment if convicted, according to Section 285 of the Criminal Law.
The case was adjourned until April 19 for sentence. (NAN)
