Ile-Ife (Osun), June 13, 2017 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Tuesday remand in prison a man, 21-year-old
Toheeb Okunade, charged with hurling stones at a police inspector.
The Magistrate, Mr Olalekan Ijiyode, who gave the ruling, had refused the oral bail application by Mr Ben Adiereje, the
defence counsel and directed that he should make a written application.
Ijiyode ordered the remand of the accused in prison pending his bail application.
Adiereje had asked the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms, promising that he will not jump bail.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and arson brought against him.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 1 at
11.30 a.m. at Iredumi Street, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said the accused conspired with others still at large to assault Insp. Solomon Owolabi attached to ‘A’ Division,
Ile-Ife.
He alleged that the accused and his accomplices threw stones at Owolabi while performing his lawful duty and also set fire to a building belonging to Mrs Kemi Awokunle.
The offences contravened Sections 356 and 433 (A), 1, of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The case has been adjourned until July 3 for mention. (NAN)
