Abuja, oct. 31 2016 (NAN) A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday remanded a 50-year-old man, Austine Okoro, in Kuje Prison for alleged cruelty to a child.
Okoro of Lugbe Zone 6 was remanded on a five-count charge of cheating, criminal intimidation, assault, cruelty to a child and impersonation, which he pleaded not guilty.
The Area Court jugde, Mr Garba Ogbede, said granting the accused bail might jeopardize the prosecutor’s investigations, and adjourned the case till Nov. 4.
The prosecutor, Aderonke Imana, had told the court that Queen Chukwu of Mpape, Abuja, reported the matter at Lugbe Police Station on Nov. 28
Imana said that Okoro deceived the complainant and collected N5,000 from her and also threatens to kill her.
She also alleged that Okoro lied to the complainant that he works with National Task Force just to take advantage of her but in the process he beat and inflicted injuries all over her body.
She stressed that Okoro drugged the complainant son of six-year-old with Indian hemp
The prosecutor told the court “This is a violent act and the violence against persons Act of 2015 frowns at violence, this court is not for comedy is for justice.
“ These are grievous offences particularly cruelty to a child, looking at the nominal complainant there are wounds all over her body.
Imana said the offence contravened sections 322, 397, 265, 238, and 132 of Penal Code, (NAN)
