Ikeja, Feb. 14, 2018 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded two men, Segun Elesho, 22, and Afeez Bashiru, 19, in prison for allegedly robbing  a woman of her Tecno phone worth N35,000.

The accused are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and armed robbery.

The accused, whose addresses were not disclosed in court, , however, pleaded innocence to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Okoi, told the court that the accused allegedly robbed one Mrs Laboti Opeyemi of her phone.

Okoi said that the accused also robbed Opeyemi of her other valuables at 12.30p.m.  on Dec. 23, 2017,  at the Sunday Market, Ogba near Lagos.

He said that the accused and others still at large were armed with one locally-made short gun loaded with a live cartridge.

“The accused blocked the complainant with an unregistered motorcycle while she was inside her vehicle.

“The accused pointed a gun at her and robbed her of her valuables, including her Tecno phone.

“The police from Area “G’’ Unit of the state police command received a distress call that some robbers were operating at Ogba,’’ he said.

Okoi told the court that two of the accused were arrested by some policemen from the unit while trying to escape from the scene of the robbery.

He said that the other accused fled in an unmarked motorcycle.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 297, 299 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

The chief magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison pending the receipt of legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).
