Enugu, Feb. 21, 2017 (NAN) An Enugu High Court on Tuesday remanded 10 men from Okwojo-Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of the state for alleged murder of a lawyer, Ejimofor Ozongwu over community land.
The accused persons, include the Chairman of the Town Union, Dennis Ozongwu, Sebastine Emeka, Uchechukwu Udeh, Thomas Ugwu and six others.
Testifying before Justice C.O Ajah, the prosecution witness, Geoffrey Nnadi, said the deceased informed him that some unauthorised town union members were encroaching in his farm despite court injunction against them.
Nnadi, who said he lived some metres away from the disputed land, said he saw the deceased in the morning driving to the land before the report of his death.
“I walked closer to the farmland when I heard the bulldozer working on the land.
“Besides, with the distances between where I was standing, I was able to hear some discussions.
“On that fateful day, I saw late Ejimofor discussing with the first accused and he was alone in his car.
“Though I was not present at the scene when the victim was killed, it was obvious that those on the trial murdered him considering their antecedent,” he said.
Ajah adjourned the matter till April 4, 2017 for continuation of hearing and ordered remand of the accused in prison.
Ozongwu was the former Secretary of the Enugu State Committee on Adada State Movement and was killed on Dec. 23, 2015 following an alleged land dispute. (NAN)
