Court orders remand of man accused of assault

Asaba, Feb. 23, 2017 (NAN) An Asaba Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of one Monday Chukwu, 27, charged with assaulting one Anayor Anayigo with a cutlass.

According to the prosecutor, Mrs Blessing Okafor, the accused wounded Anayigo at the back with the cutlass.
“The accused, on Feb. 5 at New Era Primary School, GRA, Asaba, also stole the victim’s Techno phone, wallet, a shirt, a pair of sandals and N20,000 cash,” she said.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened provisions of Sections 390 (9) and 355 of the Criminal Code Law Cap C21 Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The magistrate, Mrs Okonkwo Akanume, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till Feb. 27 for hearing (NAN).
