Court orders remand of 3 teenagers over alleged rape

Akure, Jan.26, 2017(NAN) An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of three teenagers for allegedly raping a 16- year-old girl.

The teenagers were arraigned on charges bordering on conspiracy and rape.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Edwin, ordered the remand of defendants at a correctional centre, on Ondo Road, Akure, and adjourned the case till Jan.31 for hearing.

Edwin said that the accused persons were minors and could not be tried in her court, and ordered that   the case should be referred to a court that has the jurisdiction.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Adebiyi Abiodun, had told the court that the accused persons conspired and unlawfully had canal knowledge of their victim without her consent.

Abiodun said that they committed the offences on Jan.14, at about 5:00 p.m. at Obanda Street, Akure.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 358 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. (NAN)
