Abuja, Jan. 23, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old motor park tout, Chukwudi Ani, to six months imprisonment for theft.

Ani, who resides at Jabi Motor Park, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of theft, and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

He said that he committed the crime due to hunger and promised  that he would look for a better source of income.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.

Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crime and look for a better source of income.

He also said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.

The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, had told the court that one Alexander Ahiebe, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, on Jan. 19.

Dalhatu said that the complainant said when he arrived at Abuja from Onitsha, the convict stole his bag containing his clothes, BlackBerry phone and other items valued at N106,000.

He said during police investigation, the bag and its items were recovered.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
