Imprisonment
By Nana Musa
Abuja, Sept. 28, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 37-year-old mechanic, Abdule Ibrahim, to two months imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave him an option to pay a fine N10, 000.
The judge also ordered the convict to pay the sum of N25, 000 to the complainant or return the mattress he took from the complainant.
He advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to potential offenders.
Ibrahim, who resides at Idu-karmo was convicted on a two-count charge.
He pleaded guilty to the charges, but prayed the court to temper justice with mercy on grounds that he acted out of ignorance.
The prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, had told the court that one Ochefu Adikwu of same address as the convict reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Sept. 22.
Avhioboh said that the convict sometime in March, 2017, went to the complainant’s house and begged him for a mattress, which he promised to return when he bought his own.
She, however, told the court that the convict “misappropriated’’ the mattress and that all efforts to recover it was abortive.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to committing the crime and begged for mercy.
She said that the offence was punishable under Sections 312 and 309 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
