Court jails man 1 month for causing hurt

Abuja May 18, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced one Chukwu Onyekachi to one month imprisonment for causing hurt.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict N5,000 option of fine.
Sadiq also ordered him to pay N15,000 to the nominal complainant and advised the convict to desist from fighting.
Onyekachi, a resident of Jabi Motor Park, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of causing hurt.
The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy that he had no intention to injure.
The prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that one Abdul Razak of Utako Village, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Camp Police Station, on May 13.
Auhioboh added that the complainant said that on May 7, while he was going home, he saw the convict fighting with a man and he threw a stone at the person he was fighting with.
The prosecutor said that the stone hit the complainant on the head, who was just a passerby.
He also told the court that in the process the complainant misplaced his two cell phones valued at N38, 000,and N2,000 cash.
The prosecutor said that he also paid N30, 000 as his hospital bills.
During police investigation, the defendant confessed to have committed the crime.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 247 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
