Court jails 20-year-old man 3 months for vandalism

Abuja, Jan. 19, 2018 (NAN) A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced 27-year -old Musa Abdulkarim, to three months imprisonment for trespass and stealing of armoured cables.
The court convicted Abdulkarim, as he pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of criminal trespass, mischief and theft.
The judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, who did not give the convict an option of fine, also ordered him to pay N 20, 000 as compensation to the nominal complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mahmud Ismail’la, told the court that the defendant was reported at Karu Police Station by the complainant, Gregory Etim, a staff of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company(AEDC), on Jan. 18.
He said that the defendant trespassed into the AEDC transformer, mounted by the road side close to Karu market.
The prosecutor said the defendant vandalised the transformer and stole some armoured cables worth N 20, 000, which the police was unable to recover.
Ismail’la added that police detectives found in the defendant’s hideout, after his arrest, one iron cutter, and some of the stolen cables.
He further told the court that the defendant confessed to the crime and also admitted to have sold the stolen cables. (NAN)
