Court grants 2 applicants N10,000 bail for alleged theft

Lagos, March 8, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court On Wednesday granted bail to two unemployed men, Enoch Emmanuel and Emmanuel John, in the sum of N10,000 for allegedly being in possession of stolen tricycle.
The accused persons Emmanuel, 32; and John, 27, of Ojodu Area of Lagos State. had pleaded not guilty to the theft charge.
Magistrate A. A Adesanya, who granted the bail, ordered the accused persons to produce two sureties each in like sum.
Adesanya said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case till March 22 for mention.
The Prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, had told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on Feb. 23 at Ojodu Berger Road Junction, Ojodu, Lagos.
Nwosu said that the accused persons conspired to steal tricycle, television and phones belonging to members of the public.
He said that the accused were intercepted at 2:00 a.m at Berger junction by some
members of vigilante group.
he said that when they were queried, they could not give a satisfactory answer to what they were doing at that time of the night.
“When the tricycle was searched, a TV hidden inside a sack and two phones wrapped with clothes were found.
“When they were questioned, they could not proved ownership of the tricycle, television and the two phones,” he said.
The offences contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which attracts three years jail on conviction. (NAN)
