Lagos, Sept. 6, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded an unemployed man, Alex Godwin, 26, in prison, pending his sentencing for stealing a car battery.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Raji, ordered that Godwin should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons after he pleaded guilty a charge of stealing.

Raji adjourned the case until Sept. 13 for facts and sentencing.

Godwin resides at Power line in Alagbado, near Lagos.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 28 at Jungle Bus Stop in Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.

He said the accused was caught with the car battery by a security guard at midnight.

“”When he was asked where he got the battery from, he said he removed it from a parked vehicle in Agege, but he refused to take the guard there.”

Egunjobi said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.

The accused had pleaded with the court to grant him mercy, saying that “it was the handiwork of the devil’’. (NAN)
