Marriage
By David Adeoye
Ibadan, March 16, 2017 (NAN) A Grade C Customary Court at Agodi in Ibadan has dissolved the marriage between one Jelilat Badmus and her husband, Afeez Badmus.
The President of the court, Chief Mukaila Balogun, dissolved the marriage on Thursday, following a suit filed by Jelilat, complaining of neglect and lack of care.
She told court that she was selling her belongings to feed herself while in her second pregnancy, saying that her husband never cared for her.
Jelilat said that Afeez failed to look after her and their two children in the course of their five- year-old union.
According to her, Badmus treats her like a slave and does not bother about her state of health in pregnancy.
“I use to take my cloths and other personal property to Oranyan Market in Ibadan for sale so that I can feed myself and buy drugs as prescribed by the doctor due to my condition.
“In an attempt to frustrate me, he would bring other women into our matrimonial bed and threaten to beat me.
“His actions have clearly shown that he has no interest in the marriage and I cannot force myself on him so the court should separate us.”
Jelilat further prayed the court to allow the two children of the marriage to be in her custody for proper upbringing
Afeez, however, blamed Jelilat for his actions, saying that the woman had bad behaviour.
He urged court to grant Jelilat’s prayers so that the two of them would go their separate ways.
The chief magistrate wasted no time in dissolving the marriage, ordering that the two children should be in the custody of the plaintiff.
He also directed the respondent to pay monthly allowance of N6, 000 for the upkeep of the children, warning the parties against making further trouble. (NAN)
