Ado-Ekiti, Aug. 24, 2017 (NAN) An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on Thursday dissolved  the  two-year-old marriage between one  Mercy Oluwadare and her husband, Ayodele.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the marriage was dissolved on  grounds of constant fighting and  lack of care  for the petitioner and her child.

The respondent was also accused of lack of  respect for the petitioner’s family.

Mercy,  a 24-year-old   hairdresser and  resident of  98, Idolofin Araromi street, Ado-Ekiti, told the court that the respondent was fond of quarreling with  her on frivolous issues.

The petitioner  said   the only child she had for the respondent died some  months ago because of lack of care.

The ‎petitioner called  two witnesses to testify against the respondent.

The first witness was the mother of the petitioner, Mrs Eunice Ojo, 59,  who  confirmed that the two parties often fought over different issues.

She explained that even when the petitioner left the house of the respondent, the respondent still continued to beat her wherever they met.

‎Eunice said that the respondent on a particular day beat the petitioner  and she  bled profusely.

The mother of the petitioner  supported the dissolution of the marriage.

The  second witness  and  father of the petitioner, Michael  said he had been responsible for the care of the petitioner and the child before he died.

The civil servant  added that he paid  the hospital bill  for  the child’s birth ‎ as the respondent had nothing to offer.

The respondent ‎, Ayodele Oluwadare,26, however,  denied all the allegations levelled against him by the petitioner.

Ayodele, a plumber,  said he was responsible for the payment of the  hospital bill of his late son.

He said  though the petitioner’s father paid  a  part of the hospital bill  he refunded the money when he started working.

‎The respondent also called two witnesses to testify against the complainant.

The first witness was his father, Mr Gabriel Oluwadare , a civil servant, who said the respondent took proper care of the child before his death.

The second witness of the respondent and a trader,  Mrs Lucia Oluwadare,   debunked  the allegation that the respondent maltreated ‎the petitioner and her  late child.

Lucia  said she ‎often prepared food  and looked after the petitioner and her child when she  delivered him.

The President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, after hearing from both sides, observed that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and   dissolved the union.

Akomolede ordered the two parties to go their separate ways and maintain the peace.(NAN)
