Court discharges accused of alleged theft

Ikorodu (Lagos State), March 17, 2017 (NAN) An Ijede Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Friday, discharged a 28-year old, Blessing Hono, standing trial for alleged stealing.

The Magistrate, Mr R.O. Davies, struck out the case and dismissed the charge of theft, following a withdrawal by the complainant.

The prosecutor, Insp Aminu Isaac, on Dec. 19, 2016, arraigned the accused on allegation of conversion of N260,000, belonging to the complainant, one Dooshima, to her own personal use.

“She collected the money from their customers on December 2016 but refused to deliver it to the company,’’ he said.

Isaac said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State, 2011, which stipulates seven years imprisonment for offenders.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum but was unable to meet bail conditions and has been detained in prison custody.

At the resumed hearing on Friday, the complainant applied for the withdrawal of the charge against the accused.

The magistrate, consequently struck out the case and discharged the accused. (NAN)
