Kokona (Nasarawa State), July 11, 2017 (NAN) Mr Danjuma Gambo, member of Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Kokona Local Government Council in Nasarawa State, has distributed free fertiliser to farmers in his ward to boost food production.

Gambo of APC, who represents Nikoro electoral ward, distributed 22 bags of fertilisers to the farmers on Tuesday in Kokona.

He urged the beneficiary farmers to use the fertiliser to boost food production and improve the socio-economic development of the state.

“No society can live comfortably without agriculture. Agriculture is the major source of livelihood in many families and nations; its importance in the development of any society can never be over-emphasised.

“Agriculture will not only reduce the country’s overdependence on oil but will also fight youth restiveness, unemployment and other social vices; hence the need to promote farming.

“Everybody is aware of what I have done to better the standard of living of people in my ward since my assumption of office and I assure you of my continued commitment to initiating more people-oriented projects,’’ he said.

The IMC member urged the farmers and people of the ward to continue to support him and the party, so as to enable them to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

He, however, urged Nigerians to pray for the peace, unity and progress of the country, saying that no nation could achieve any meaningful progress without peace.

In his speech, Mr Bala Adamu, Chairman of the Fertiliser Distribution Committee, commended the councillor for the gesture and called for its sustenance.

He advised other political office holders in the ward and the state at large to emulate the gesture of the councillor.

Responding, Mallam Chindo Ahmed, the District Head of Nikoro ward, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the councillor for his benevolence and assured him of their support at all times.

He gave the assurance that the beneficiaries would use the fertiliser for the purpose for which it was meant.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on May 23, Gambo disbursed scholarships to 53 secondary school students in his ward and each of the beneficiaries received N3, 000. (NAN)
