Council calls for bids to host AU Sports Council Region 2 inaugural games

Abuja, Dec. 14, 2017 (NAN) The First Session of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 2 Ministers Meeting has called for bids for the hosting of the maiden edition of AUSC Region 2 Games.

The call was made in the communique issued at the end of the four-day meeting on Thursday in Abuja and signed by host Sports Minister Solomon Dalung.

The council also urged member-countries to indicate interest to host the region’s next meeting scheduled for August 2018.

It further directed the AUSC Region 2 secretariat to identify alternative sources of funding for the secretariat for consideration and approval.

The council also reviewed and recommended its working tools, including the Region’s Statutes, strategic plan for 2017-2024 and annual subscriptions by member-countries.

It also reviewed and recommended an organisational chart, office and administrative structures for effective management of the AUSC Region 2.

The AUSC Region 2 however thanked the Nigerian government for hosting the session and according diplomatic status to its Headquarters and its secretariat staff.

Furthermore, the council extolled President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the take-off funds for the management of the AUSC Region 2 secretariat ahead of contributions from member-countries.

It also thanked President Buhari for engaging the pioneer staff to facilitate the smooth running of the secretariat.

The council also recommended that the proposal on annual subscriptions be transmitted to member-countries through their respective embassies in Abuja.

It also approved the remittance of 50 percent of its annual subscription to the AUSC Headquarters in Yaoundé, Cameroon.(NAN)
