Minna, May.30, 2018 ( NAN) The National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Alhaji Abdulkadir Salam said on Wednesday that the establishment of special courts to try corruption cases was necessary to ensure the success of the fight against corruption in the country.
Salam said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Minna that the special courts would remove bottlenecks associated with the adjudication of corruption matters being witnessed in the conventional courts.
According to him, the expeditious adjudication of the cases would beam positively on the image of the judiciary and help make corruption and other financial crimes less attractive.
“The setting up of special courts to try corruption charges would enhance the credibility of the nation’s judiciary and its capacity to effectively play its role in the fight against corruption in the country.”
He said Nigerians irrespective of party affiliation must support the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari, by exposing corrupt officials in private and public service.
The LP national chairman also spoke on the need for eligible Nigerians to obtain their voter cards, so as to elect leaders with proven integrity and unquestionable characters in the 2019 general elections.
“As the nation’s general election draws closer, I appeal to Nigerians who are eligible to vote, to register and get their voter cards in order to elect God-fearing leaders of proven integrity in the interest of national development.
” I also appeal to Nigerians who had earlier registered but not collected their cards to do so with immediate effect,” he said.
Salam commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for providing more registration facilities to capture eligible Nigerians in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration nationwide. (NAN)
