Corps members commend NYSC for skill acquisition programme

Mangu (Plateau State), June 12, 2017(NAN) The 2017 batch “A” stream 1 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Plateau have commended the
management of the scheme for initiating  skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes for them.
The corps members made the commendation in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Mangu, Plateau State during their passing out parade at the end of three weeks orientation exercise.
They said that the programme would not only empower them after their service year but would be the source of livelihood for many of them.
One of the NYSC members, Tayo Alabi, a beneficiary of the programme, said he was taught the skill of food processing, adding that it was something he was thinking of doing after service.
He said that “during our orientation exercise, we were asked to indicate interest in skills we would like to acquire, I indicated interest in food processing, I was taught how to make various types of pastries, continental and inter-continental cuisines.”
Alabi added that the programme would reduce the pressure on the country in terms of white collar job demands.
“I acquired this skill absolutely free of charge; this skill will empower me greatly,  now I do not have to depend on my parents for funds anymore, in fact  I don’t need a white collar job, all I will do now is to widen my horizon after my service year.”
Similarly, Miss Tobi Ojo, commended the NYSC for the initiative and advocated that the progamme be sustained for future corps members.
She said she acquired skill in tailoring, saying she was certain that it would empower her and enable her to empower others.‎
Mrs Fumilayo Akin-Moses, the state’s NYSC Coordinator, commended the corps members “for demonstrating uncommon courage and patriotism during the orientation exercise.”
She urged them to extend their skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme to their various host communities.
The state’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr Danladi Mang, who represented Gov. Simon Lalong at the passing out parade of the NYSC members,
urged the corps members to shun vices.He assured them of safety during the service year and urged them to show respect to the culture and norms of their host communities. (NAN)
