Zaria (Kaduna State), May 10, 2017 (NAN) Brig. – Gen. Christopher Musa, Commandant Depot, Nigerian Army, Zaria, on Wednesday, reiterated that maintaining the corporate existence of Nigeria remained the primary responsibility of the Nigerian Army.

He made this disclosure in an interview with newsmen shortly after the closing ceremony of a programme, “Train the Trainer” for depot instructors at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training of about 250 instructors was performed by the British Military Advisory Train the Trainer Team (BMATT) from the United Kingdom.

Musa urged the military personnel to be mindful of the fact that they were in uniform to ensure that Nigerians are safe and sound and that they live in peace and harmony with one another.

“It is very important for the military to remain professional and to always understand that they are there for the people.

“What we must ensure that our people and the country are safe and sound and that Nigerians live in peace and harmony,” he said.

Speaking specifically on the training, the commandant said the exercise was highly rewarding.

Musa explained that the major aim of the training was to build up the capacity of the instructors while they await the arrival of the recruits.

“This is something we do twice yearly to prepare the instructors with a view to imparting the knowledge to the incoming recruits.

“It is really very rewarding because we have seen the results out in the field, the young soldiers have really been performing well,” he noted.

He stated that the current contemporary challenges were some of the issues thoroughly digested during the training.

“The BMATT has brought in new ideas because of the current global contemporary challenges, having had experiences in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.

‘‘What we do is to feed them back with what is happening in the North-East, we model that to prepare our instructors.

“As you are aware, most of the young soldiers on graduation here, after this initial training, have another advanced training before they are deployed and they are doing very well,” he said. (NAN)
