Abuja, Feb. 28, 2018 (NAN) Tally Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, Abuja, has provided succour to about 3, 000 women, mostly widows.

Mrs Nancy Harry, Coordinator of the society, while presenting the assistance in Abuja on Wednesday, said women were the most vulnerable people in the Society.

The over 3,000 beneficiaries, were drawn from women groups from Nyanya, Karu, in the FCT, and Kafanchan, from Kaduna State.

The coordinator explained that the gesture was to provide the widows a shoulder to lean on.

She said that the cooperative envisioned creating enterprises through which women, especially widows could leverage on to grow economically and become self-reliant in the society.

She said, “It is not all about having too much money, but it is about having the heart to give out to those who are in need. It is about expression of love’’.

Also speaking, Pastor Mrs Jackie Talena, an Abuja-based cleric, noted that one of the major challenges facing widows was rejection and abandonment by the society.

“Not just because of losing their loved ones (husbands), but because they do not have anyone to turn to’’.

According to her, the experiences of every widow were those of rejection and scorn, either from the society or husband’s family.

Talena, therefore, encouraged the widows to understand that the demise of their husbands did not mean the end life for either them, or their children.

“God is the husband to widows; and father to fatherless children.’’

Also, former Deputy Governor of Plateau, Mrs. Pauline Tallen, charged women, especially widows to remain strong despite the high rate of poverty in the land.

She urged them to see themselves as women of substance, who could be of assistance to others, rather than constitute themselves as the needy and liability in the society. (NAN)
