Kano, Jan. 10, 2017 (NAN) As scarcity of kerosene bites harder in Kano, cooking gas users in the state have complained of the sudden increase in the price of the product.

Some of the users told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kano, that the sudden hike in the price of the product was shocking, considering the current economic situation in the country.

One of the users, Alhaji Bala Ahmed, told NAN that he was taken aback when he was informed by gas retailers that the price to refill 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas had increased from N3, 700 to N4,000.

A survey conducted by NAN revealed that the cost of refilling 12.5 kg cylinder had risen from between N3,500 and N3, 700, to between N4 , 000 and N4, 500.

Similarly, the price of refilling 10kg cylinder now costs N3, 200 as against the former price of between N2, 900 and N3, 000.

The survey showed that the price of 6kg cylinder of cooking gas now costs N2, 200 as against the former price of N1, 800.

Similarly the cost of refilling 5kg cylinder, rose to N1,700, as against the former price of N1, 500.

The survey also showed that refilling 3kg cylinder now costs N1,000 as against the former price of N900.

A businessman, Alhassan Sabo, said the increase in price was unbearable for many families and appealed to the government to intervene with a view to reducing the price.

A restaurant operator, Mrs Grace Chijoke, expressed concern over the price hike, saying it had adversely affected her business.

She complained that gas sellers had been exploiting users by arbitrarily increasing the prices of the commodity each year. (NAN)
