Company commiserates with families of victims of electrocution

Calabar, April 21, 2017 (NAN) The 11KVA feeder that exploded leading to the death of 30 football fans  at Nyangasang, Calabar on Thursday, has been isolated to ensure the security of lives and property.

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC), stated this in a condolence message to families of the diseased in Calabar on Friday.

According to a statement signed by Mr John Onyi, Head Public Affairs, Engr. Kingsley Achife, Chief Operating Officer, they commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the incident/
“Our heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families. May God give the families the courage to bear the losses.

“We also sympathize with those who sustained injuries and wish them quick recovery.’’

They added however that investigation team had been constituted to find out the remote/immediate cause of the accident.
They urged the residents to remain calm and law abiding and to accord the team the necessary support during the investigation.
They thanked law enforcement agencies for responding quickly to the distress call and ensuring that those injured were promptly taken to hospitals for medical attention.
They said the company also expressed its sincere appreciation to Gov. Ben Ayade, who through his deputy came to the scene of the incident and calmed the nerves of the affected community.
He called on members of the public and electricity consumers to always adhere to safety regulations by not erecting any structure under high tension lines.

No fewer than 30 fans died when high tension electricity cable fell on the television viewing center while watching encounter in the European football league. (NAN)
