Deduction
Birnin Kebbi, Dec 16, 2016 (NAN) Alhaji Faruku Jega, chairman, Kebbi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has expressed dissattisfaction over indiscriminate deductions in the salaries of local government employees.
Jega (APC Jega constituency), made the statement on Friday in Birnin Kebbi when some local government officials from Zuru local government council visited him.
“It is disheartening and unlawful to deduct workers salaries without formal directive and genuine reason from the executive arm of government,’’ he said.
Jega warned sole administrators of local government councils not to deduct the salaries of their staff without convincing reason especially now that verification of local government workers was being undertaken by the government.
He said that his committee had received several complaints of deductions of salaries of local government staff between September and November 2016.
The chairman said that the outcome of the verification would determine the way forward for local councils.
He assured local government workers that all their outstanding allowances would soon be paid.
The lawmaker directed the officials from Zuru local government council to submit the list of staff whose salaries were deducted to the committee. (NAN)
