Abuja, April 25, 2018 (NAN) Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Person (NCFRMI), has called for rapid response to health challenges confronting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) nationwide.
She made the call during the medical outreach organised by the commission in partnership with Dr Alhassan Hospital on Wednesday in Abuja.
She said that the objective of the programme was to bring about rapid response to health challenges confronting the IDPs at various camps in FCT.
According to her, the commission has received series of letters of request from the IDPs in different locations for assistance on health issues.
She said that the commission deemed it fit to organise the medical outreach to ameliorate the health challenges of the IDPs in FCT.
She thanked Dr Alhassan Hospital for partnering with the commission to provide health care for the IDPs.
“The NCFRMI has the responsibility of ensuring that durable solutions are found for persons and communities who have been displaced by conflict and other natural disaster.
She said that the commission was committed to carry out the mandate, adding that it was also committed to partnering with persons of concern.
“I sincerely empathise with the displaced population on the pains and agony they have been going through these past weeks, months and years.
“I know it is not easy for one to be unexpectedly and forcibly uprooted from one’s home in such a traumatic manner,’’ she said.
Dr Chukwu Okara, Director Laboratory Services, and the spokesperson of Dr. Alhassan Hospital, said he had nostalgic feelings the moment he entered the IDPs.
Okara said that it was imperative to provide health care facilities for the IDPs, adding that the government and all well-meaning Nigerians must rally support for the IDPs.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the take-off for the medical outreach was at Sabo Kuchingoro and the train is moving to other IDPs. (NAN)
