Commission to commence awareness campaign on prompt payment of Zakkat

Sokoto Jan. 27, 2018 (NAN) The Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission is to it partner with the Sultanate council, prominent scholars and Da’awah organizations to sensitise wealthy Muslims on the importance of prompt payment of Zakkat (Alms).

The Commission’s Chairman, Malam Lawal Maidaki, stated this while presenting a report on the outcome of the committee’s visit to Malaysia on Saturday in Sokoto.

Maidoki said the awareness programme would be conducted by a committee to be set up from the parties concerned in order to enhance Zakkat collection among the larger society.

“This has become a system by which many countries in the world applied to ensure the success of Zakkat and endowment generation among the society.”

Maidoki also said that the commission will collaborate with educational, commercial and social finance bodies in the endowment development of the needy in the state.

He said the commission will continue to partner and collaborate with all relevant stakeholders and organizations within and outside the country willing to support the activities of the needy across the state.

The Chairman further stressed the need for supporting the government initiative in assisting the needy to ensure better society.

He called on the needy to desist from street begging, as it has no basis in the teachings of Islam.

He commended the Sokoto state government under the leadership of Gov. Aminu Tambuwal for supporting the activities of the commission. (NAN)
