Bauchi, April 3, 2017 (NAN) The Bauchi State Commission for Youth and Women Rehabilitation and Development (BACYWORD) has earmarked N70 million for a three-week capacity building and rehabilitation workshop for 1,000 youths in the state.
The Chairman of the agency, Mr Ahmed Umar, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Monday.
Umar, a legal practitioner, said that the training would be conducted at the Leadership and Training Centre in Plateau.
He said that participants at the workshop would be drawn from all the 20 local government areas of the state.
Umar said that the participants would be empowered and re-integrated into the society to contribute to the development of the state.
According to him, the commission will be collaborating with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and participants will be pulled out from their usual day-to-day activities for the period.
He said that no fewer than 500 participants would be trained on GSM repairs, 300 in carpentry and 200 in generator repairs.
“The participants will be given starter packs to embark on a small-scale businesses and will be re-integrated into the community since in the past, they have lost their natural temperament,’’ he said.
Similarly, the commission also said that 2,000 youths will be registered for free for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for the 2017/2018 academic session.
He said that beneficiaries would be selected across the 20 local government areas to encourage youths to study in various fields of endeavour. (NAN)
